Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Fighters Table

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a wide array of characters, and a exciting storyline featuring divine entities, demons, and sinister influences increasing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Key plot points for the latest installment of the new season lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

Episode 3 concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of characters who will split off from the primary party to embark on their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Considering an extensive roster, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might look unsuited, but the events of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated the foes for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, striking the rogue, and swiping all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The traitor then settled his obligations and escaped to a secure base in the remote area, above the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, desires retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows Timmony and advises that it is a hostile environment.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their reputation as key figures in the powerful family could help the group reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The cleric turned against the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This results in them no alternative but to head to the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.

What’s Next?

Based on the latest episode’s Cooldown, we discover that the warrior group will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the cast members to form the Explorers and Planners parties.

Viewers can anticipate discovering which adventurers will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, released on the upcoming Thursday.
